Daniel Seo
Age: 28
Daniel Seo is a Korean-American seminarian, currently in his last year of training to become a Catholic priest at St. John’s Seminary. Growing up in Orange County, Daniel dreamed of becoming a professional snowboarder until he suffered a serious injury on the slopes in his last year of high school. During his recovery, Daniel realized that his goals were changing and that he was being called to his faith in a new way. For Daniel, growing up has been a process of navigating the intersection between tradition and cultural expectation. Though difficult for Daniel’s parents to learn that their son was choosing a life of celibacy, the Seos teach us a beautiful lesson about letting go and watching your children grow into who they are.
Eleanor Goodrich
Age: 27
Eleanor Goodrich is a teacher for a Los Angeles-based non-profit organization that provides gardening and sustainability education in LAUSD schools. When she was a teenager, Eleanor’s family purchased farmland in her hometown of Marion Virginia, where her family has owned and operated a dairy farm ever since. Upon returning to the farm after college, Eleanor confronted a sense of failure to launch and self-judgement that many millennials face when moving home after college. In years since, she has come to find that adulthood isn’t about where you live or the job you have but the everyday moments in which we plant small seeds of change and enrich each others’ lives.
Taylor Anthony King
Age: 26
Taylor King is an aspiring fashion designer from Los Angeles, California, who co-owns a streetwear brand called Brothers By Soul. His work, a collaboration with his step brother, integrates timely social themes such as police and gang violence within the African American community. The road to adulthood for Taylor was a bumpy one, which he describes as living by “trial and error.” His direction became clear, however, once he became a father at age 23 and became responsible for the wellbeing and upbringing of his son, True. The main challenge for Taylor in growing up has been figuring out how to realize his own dreams and ambitions while devoting his life to caring for his son.
